PRESS RELEASE (October 12, 2018) – The Forestry Wildlife and Parks Division wishes to inform the general public that in light of the impact of Hurricane Maria on Dominica’s ecosystems, food source and wildlife, a decision has been taken to maintain a ban on the Hunting and Fishing of wildlife for the 2018 Hunting Season.
Please be advised that under the Forestry and Wildlife Act chapter (60:02) section (38) states that No person may hunt for or fish for any wildlife during that period for which the season is closed for that particular species of wildlife. The General Public is further advised that the exportation of or attempt to export any form of wildlife from the state is a violation of the Forestry and Wildlife Act (chapter 60:02) of the revised laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The following wildlife contraband was intercepted and seized, by customs and forestry personnel, on Saturday August 25, 2018, at the Roseau Ferry as an individual attempted to leave Dominica with the dissected land crabs (Cobo).
Help Protect Dominica’s Wildlife
Wildlife offences are ARRESTABLE offenses under the Forestry and Wildlife Act of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Hunting, freshwater fishing, or live capture of wildlife outside the hunting season, or NOT included in the “games list” during the hunting season–including possession of or the illegal exportation of wildlife–carries legal penalties.
